Credit Report Review – Step 2 Prep
You will receive a copy of your credit from each bureau after the first wave of letters is sent. The credit bureau will respond and note action items for each disputed item. Generally, it will say one of the following for each disputed account:
- Deleted: The account has been removed from your credit report
- Not Reported: Is not showing impacting your credit score, but is visible on your credit report
- Updated: Remains on the credit report, and there is no change in account standing
Any accounts that are deleted are wins. We will not dispute the items again. Any items that are updated, need to be disputed. No matter the validity of these accounts – remember the burden of proof is on the credit bureau to provide proof and in most cases produce originally signed agreements.
Once we’ve determined what remains on the credit report from the first set of letters, for each bureau, we can then start to sculpt the second letters.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT BLINDLY OR QUICKLY MOVE THROUGH YOUR 3 LETTERS! OFTEN, SOMETHING IS DELETED BY ONE CREDIT BUREAU, BUT NOT ANOTHER. DO NOT ACCIDENTALLY DISPUTE AN ACCOUNT THAT IS ALREADY DELETED WITH ONE OF THE BUREAUS BECAUSE OF OVERSIGHT. TAKE YOUR TIME WITH THE PROCESS.
